Education Secretary Sonny Angara has ordered the expedited release of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Quick Response Funds (QRF) to support schools affected by recent disasters in Masbate, Cebu, and Davao Oriental.
According to Angara, aid should not take up to two years to arrive — a situation that has happened before. He stressed that action must be swift because every damaged school and every day wasted is a day that children are unable to study.
So far, ₱139.4 million has already been released for schools in Masbate, while damage assessments are still ongoing in Cebu and Davao Oriental.
As of October 11, more than 1,000 schools in Manay, Davao Oriental have been affected.
In closing, the secretary assured that DepEd will prioritize the safety of students and teachers during times of disaster.
