The Civil Service Commission has confirmed that individuals who pass the bar exams or board exams are automatically considered civil service eligibles. They will no longer need to take additional eligibility tests, ahead of the 2025 Civil Service Examinations.
Exams recognized by CSC
According to the CSC, individuals who pass the bar exams conducted by the Supreme Court and licensure exams administered by the Professional Regulation Commission now qualify as civil service eligibles. The commission also included marine deck and engine officers licensed by the Maritime Industry Authority after the transfer of examination and licensing duties from the PRC to MARINA.
Additionally, those who pass the Shari’a Bar Examinations are also eligible for civil service positions.
Eligibility and requirements
The CSC clarified that bar and board passers do not need to visit CSC offices for verification. A valid professional license or related certification issued by the SC, PRC, or MARINA is sufficient to prove eligibility.
Bar and board eligibilities apply to both first-level and second-level government positions. First-level positions include clerical, trade, craft, or custodial jobs, while second-level positions cover professional, technical, or scientific roles up to the Division Chief level.
Exemption from Master’s Degree requirement
The CSC also noted that bar and board passers are exempt from the master’s degree requirement for division chief or executive/managerial positions as long as their roles align with their professional fields. For example, lawyers and doctors are exempt from this requirement for positions in their respective fields.
Upcoming Civil Service Examination dates
The CSC reminded the public of the upcoming Civil Service Examination (CSE) dates: March 25, 2025 for both Professional and Subprofessional levels, and August 10, 2025 for the next round.
