Crime rate in Davao drops 2% as police intensify crackdown

The Police Regional Office XI (PRO-11) has intensified its fight against crime following a 2% drop in the region’s crime rate, signaling improved security, according to PRO-11 spokesperson Police Major Catherine Dela Rey.

Data shows that cases of eight focus crimes—which include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping of both motor vehicles and motorcycles—declined from 123 cases last year to 121 this year.

The most significant drop was in rape cases, which fell by 37.5%, from 40 cases last year to just 15 this year.

Dela Rey attributed the decline to enhanced police efforts, including increased street patrols and community awareness programs aimed at crime prevention.

Aside from focus crimes, PRO-11 remains vigilant against non-index crimes, such as illegal drugs, gambling, and smuggling, to ensure lasting peace and order in the region.
