The lead legal counsel of Vice President Sara Duterte, Attorney Sheila Sison, has criticized lawmakers who opposed their Supreme Court petition questioning the legality of the impeachment case against the vice president.

The veteran lawyer argued that the House of Representatives does not have absolute power to initiate all impeachment cases. She emphasized the need to follow constitutional standards, such as proper complaint filing procedures, the required number of votes to move the complaint forward, and adherence to the one-year constitutional ban on filing impeachment cases.

Sison also took a swipe at legislators who criticized Duterte’s legal move without thoroughly reviewing the merits of their petition. She accused them of making premature judgments without understanding the constitutional grounds they are challenging.
