Couple arrested in Davao City drug bust

A couple was arrested after allegedly selling suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation conducted by the City Drug Enforcement Unit in Barangay 27-C, Davao City early Monday morning.

Police identified the suspects as alias Kol, 29, and alias Shiela, 25, both residents of Wilfredo Aquino, Davao City. Authorities said the operation took place shortly after 3 a.m. on Dec. 22.

According to the report, Kol was the primary target of the operation and was listed as a top five city-level drug personality. Shiela was arrested alongside him during the transaction.

Investigators said the suspects were caught after selling a large pack of suspected shabu to an undercover police officer who acted as a poseur-buyer. The illegal drugs reportedly had a value of 183,600 pesos based on standard drug pricing.

The suspects failed to evade arrest as officers immediately took them into custody following the transaction. The seized substance was secured as evidence for laboratory examination.

Police did not report any injuries during the operation and said the arrest was conducted in accordance with standard operating procedures.

The couple is currently detained at a custodial facility while preparing to face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to sustained anti-illegal drug operations across the city, particularly against individuals classified as high-value or city-level drug personalities.

The City Drug Enforcement Unit said further investigation is ongoing to determine whether the suspects have other drug-related connections within Davao City.
