Construction of farm-to-market roads set to begin in April

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is targeting the start of construction of farm-to-market road (FMR) projects by April this year.

Under the 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the DA received an allocation of ₱33 billion for the construction of 2,300 kilometers of new FMRs across various parts of the country.

According to DA–Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (BAFE) Director Cristy Polido, the agency expects construction to begin once the implementing guidelines are completed.

She said the guidelines are expected to be finalized in February and will then be submitted to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

Once approved, the funds will be released and implementation will move forward.

At present, the DA said it is consulting with contractors’ associations for the final costing and is coordinating with local government units for the implementation of the projects.
