The Commission on Elections (Comelec) expressed readiness to provide the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) with records of campaign contributions from private contractors once the agency requests them.
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said on Wednesday, October 22, that the poll body will cooperate fully with the ICI to strengthen transparency and accountability in campaign financing.
He confirmed that the Office of the Ombudsman already coordinated with the Comelec on the same concern. Garcia said the commission will immediately comply with any official request from government bodies tasked to investigate corruption.
The Comelec’s review of Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCEs) from the May 2025 polls showed that 14 national and local candidates — including four elected senators — received campaign donations from 26 private contractors.
The recipients also include two party-list groups, three congressional aspirants, one national political party, and two gubernatorial candidates.
Garcia said the Comelec continues to verify the contractors’ government dealings with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) before identifying the candidates.
He said the commission will release the information once it completes coordination with the DPWH to ensure the accuracy of the findings.
