China has accused the Philippines of causing a ship collision in the disputed waters of Bajo de Masinloc, demanding that Manila pay for damages to its vessels.
According to a video released by Chinese state media, the incident occurred when the Philippine vessel BRP Suluan allegedly made dangerous maneuvers, repeatedly crossing in front of two Chinese ships. Beijing claims this action caused the vessels to collide.
The footage, which China says serves as proof, shows moments leading up to the crash. Chinese authorities argue that the Philippines should be held financially responsible for the repair of the damaged ships.
The disputed shoal, also known as Scarborough Shoal, has long been a flashpoint between the two nations, with both sides maintaining overlapping territorial claims in the South China Sea.
China’s statement did not mention whether any injuries occurred during the incident, nor did it provide details on the extent of the damage.
As of now, the Philippine Coast Guard has not issued any comment or response to the allegations made by Beijing.
The latest development adds to the already tense maritime standoff between the two countries, with both sides frequently accusing each other of aggressive actions in contested waters.
Diplomatic analysts note that the timing and framing of the video release could influence international perceptions of the incident, as both nations seek to assert their version of events.
