Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson is expected to testify as a witness in the Senate’s upcoming flood control hearing, a lawmaker confirmed.
Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson said in an ambush interview with Senate media that Singson personally visited his office to submit a letter expressing his willingness to participate in the inquiry.
According to Lacson, the Senate has set a tentative schedule for the hearing on April 14. He clarified, however, that the date remains subject to change and could be moved earlier depending on availability.
Lacson explained that holding the hearing sooner may be difficult due to the adjournment of the Senate session scheduled for the following day. He noted that calling for an earlier hearing could affect attendance, as some senators may already be on vacation.
Despite the scheduling constraints, Lacson said preparations for the hearing are ongoing.
He also said he plans to consult with fellow senators on whether to invite 18 former Marines to appear in the same hearing. No final decision has been made regarding their participation.
The Senate inquiry is part of efforts to examine issues related to flood control projects, although specific details of the allegations or scope of the investigation were not disclosed in the interview.
Singson’s expected testimony is anticipated to contribute to the proceedings as lawmakers continue to gather information relevant to the probe.
Further details on the hearing schedule and possible witnesses are expected to be finalized after consultations among Senate members.
