Senior Citizens in Gensan find fun, fitness in Pickleball

Senior citizens in General Santos City are embracing pickleball as a fun way to stay active, healthy, and socially engaged.

An 86-year-old grandfather continues playing the sport, showing that age does not prevent seniors from enjoying physical activities.

According to Adrian Cejes, pickleball keeps him active while allowing him to spend time with other players regularly.

Coach Roy Gangoso said more senior citizens continue joining pickleball sessions because the sport provides exercise and enjoyable social interaction.

Bing Lozano said playing pickleball helps her remain physically active while preventing excessive screen time during her free time.

The growing popularity of pickleball in General Santos City has also encouraged more residents to participate in organized games.

Local pickleball organizers said General Santos City now has around one hundred courts serving players from different age groups.

The increasing number of courts reflects the sport’s growing community, which continues attracting beginners, experienced players, and senior citizens.

Founder Wally Ortiz expressed support for the growing pickleball community and encouraged more residents to participate in the sport.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod has also called for stronger support from the General Santos City government for pickleball development.

Officials and organizers hope continued support will provide more opportunities for residents to stay active through accessible recreational sports.
