3 BIFF, Dawlah Islamiyah members surrender in Maguindanao del Sur

Three members of armed groups surrendered to authorities during an operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao del Sur, officials said.

The individuals were identified as members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and the Dawlah Islamiyah group. Authorities said the surrenderers were affiliated with the BIFF/DI Karialan faction, which has been active in the Mamasapano area.

The surrender took place as part of ongoing operations aimed at addressing the presence of armed groups in the province.

Along with their surrender, the individuals turned over several firearms and ammunition to authorities. These included a Barrett rifle, an M79 grenade launcher, an M203 grenade launcher tube, and a Mosin rifle. Two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were also surrendered.

Authorities did not disclose further details regarding the identities of the individuals or the circumstances leading to their surrender.

Officials said the move was part of continuing efforts to reduce threats posed by armed groups and to maintain peace and order in Maguindanao del Sur.

Security forces reiterated their commitment to pursuing individuals involved in illegal activities while encouraging others to surrender and cooperate with authorities.

Operations against lawless elements in the region remain ongoing, with authorities emphasizing the importance of sustaining peace and stability in affected communities.
