Cebu cop loses post over ‘Bring Me’ bounty offer on social media

A police officer in Cebu province lost his post after turning the popular online “Bring Me” game into a controversial bounty hunt for drug users and pushers, prompting the Philippine National Police (PNP) to launch an investigation.

The officer, who worked in an administrative unit in Talisay City, appeared in a now-deleted social media video offering P2,000 for anyone who could bring a drug user and P5,000 for a street-level pusher.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said on Monday, November 3, that the video came from the officer’s personal account, and on the orders of the Chief PNP, investigators directed the officer and his chief of police to explain their actions.

Meanwhile, the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), led by Brigadier General Bernard Yang, preserved the video and began a digital investigation to determine possible charges.

Tuaño said the officer violated police operational procedures and ignored the guidelines for social media content creation issued by the Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR).*
