Breathalyzers push in Antique faces roadblock as police lack equipment

The Antique provincial board has urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) to provide investigators with breathalyzers to improve road safety and ensure fair enforcement of traffic laws.

Board Member Noel Alamis said that breathalyzers play a critical role in reducing alcohol-related accidents and ensuring fairness during investigations.

He explained that these devices enable the police to accurately determine whether motorists involved in accidents were driving under the influence of alcohol.

Alamis emphasized this point after the provincial board passed a resolution on Monday, January 13, requesting breathalyzers for police investigators.

However, Lieutenant Colonel Willy Diel, the Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) information officer, said that investigators currently lack breathalyzers despite their necessity.

He identified drunk driving as a major factor in many vehicular accidents and highlighted the benefits of using the devices.

By filling this gap, Antique’s leaders aim to reduce road incidents and improve traffic law enforcement, creating safer roads for everyone in the province.
