Police have arrested two suspects in the fatal shooting of political vlogger Mima Alicia, who was killed in Caloocan City on July 17, authorities said.
Philippine National Police Public Information Office Chief Col. Allen Rae Co identified the suspects as the alleged gunman, identified only by the alias “M.S.,” and the alleged motorcycle driver, identified only as “J.A.”
The two were arrested in Mabalacat, Pampanga, on the morning of July 23 following an intensive investigation and follow-up operations conducted by the Northern Police District’s Special Investigation Task Group MIMA.
Authorities said they recovered two hand grenades, a caliber .45 pistol and a 9mm pistol from the suspects during the operation.
The suspects have been charged with murder, violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and violation of Republic Act No. 9516.
Alicia was shot and killed in Barangay 171, Caloocan City. Her live-in partner was wounded during the attack carried out by assailants riding a motorcycle.
Co said the investigation remains ongoing despite the arrest of the two suspects.
Police are also looking into the possibility that other individuals were involved in the killing.
At present, investigators are examining both personal and work-related motives behind the crime.
Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the identities of any other possible suspects or whether more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
