Mother killed in alleged stabbing by son in Cebu

A 51-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her own son in Barangay Sonog, San Francisco, Cebu, on the morning of July 21, police said.

The victim, identified only as Melody, worked as a Barangay Utility Worker. Police identified the suspect as her 29-year-old son, identified only by the alias “Lyle.”

Based on the initial police investigation, the suspect allegedly became angry after his mother sought assistance from the barangay regarding his mental health treatment at the Rural Health Unit.

Authorities said that when the victim returned home, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife, chased his mother and repeatedly stabbed her.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds on different parts of her body and was later found lying on a grassy area.

Police immediately launched a hot pursuit operation that led to the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect is currently being held at the custodial facility of the San Francisco Municipal Police Station while authorities prepare the appropriate charges.

Police have not released additional information regarding the motive beyond the initial findings of the investigation.

Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
