BPO workers’ group files petition for wage increase

A group of BPO industry workers has filed a petition before the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board NCR to push for a salary increase.

The BPO Industry Employees Network (BIEN) is seeking to raise the daily minimum wage to ₱1,200.

According to the group, the current ₱695 minimum wage is no longer sufficient compared to the ₱1,266 daily cost of living for a family of five, based on estimates by the IBON Foundation.

BIEN said the petition highlights factors such as the rising inflation rate of 4.1%, the State of National Energy Emergency due to the oil crisis, and the declining purchasing power of the peso.

The group also pointed out that despite generating $40 billion in revenue in 2025 from 1.9 million BPO workers, many employees still receive basic monthly salaries as low as ₱15,000.

BIEN National President Mylene Cabalona emphasized that while they continue to file and push for petitions, real gains for workers will come through collective action.
