Barangay staff killed outside barangay hall in Davao City

A barangay staff member was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen outside the Barangay Hall in Barangay Dumoy, Davao City, on the evening of Aug. 4, police said.

The victim was identified by investigators as Henry Siason Jr., 32, a resident of Barangay Dumoy.

According to the initial investigation by the Baliok Police Station, the shooting occurred at about 6:30 p.m.

The victim’s nephew, identified only as John, told investigators that he saw two unidentified men riding a red-and-black motorcycle while his uncle was standing near the barangay hall.

Police said the motorcycle driver was wearing a black helmet, while the passenger wore a white helmet.

Moments later, the witness heard several gunshots and saw the victim collapse to the ground.

The suspects then fled south aboard the motorcycle, authorities said.

Emergency responders rushed Siason to Malta Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival at 7:22 p.m.

The Baliok Police Station and the Regional Forensic Unit 11 Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) are conducting a joint investigation into the incident.

Investigators are gathering evidence and pursuing leads to identify the gunmen and determine the motive behind the killing.

Authorities have not announced any arrests or identified possible suspects.

Police also have not released information indicating a motive for the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue efforts to locate those responsible for the fatal attack.
