A commander of the Philippine Army’s Training Support Group has been temporarily relieved from his post following an alleged social media post withdrawing support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., military officials confirmed.
Col. Audie Mongao was relieved from his position effective Thursday night, according to Army spokesperson Louie de Maala, citing instructions from Maj. Gen. Michael Logico, commander of the Training Command, Philippine Army (TRACOM).
The relief came after an alleged online post attributed to Mongao circulated on social media. In the post, Mongao appeared to withdraw his support for Marcos and included the phrase “Sobra na, Tama na.” The post sparked public discussion and prompted an internal response from Army leadership.
Logico said Mongao has been placed under the Office of the Commander of TRACOM while authorities conduct an investigation to determine possible administrative and legal charges related to the post. He added that Mongao has yet to issue a response regarding the allegations.
“We are still reaching out to Col. Mongao so that we may extend to him emotional support. He is still my responsibility,” Logico said.
Logico also emphasized that the Philippine Army remains loyal to the Constitution and strictly observes the chain of command, noting that all military personnel are expected to remain apolitical in the performance of their duties.
In a separate statement posted on its official Facebook page, TRACOM reiterated its commitment to discipline, professionalism and constitutional loyalty. The command said its mission is to develop future soldiers who are not only combat-ready but also grounded in honor, patriotism and service to the people, describing its trainees as “apolitical servants of the nation.”
The Army said it will release further updates as the investigation progresses.
