Three Vietnamese nationals were arrested after they were allegedly caught performing an illegal dental procedure in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City, Cebu, authorities said.

The operation was conducted Aug. 10 by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Mandaue City Field Unit, with assistance from CIDG Region 7, the National Bureau of Investigation-Cebu and the Philippine Dental Association-Mandaue Chapter.

According to the CIDG, the suspects were caught while performing a tooth extraction.

Authorities said the three allegedly did not have the required Certificate of Registration, Professional Identification Card and special permit from the Professional Regulatory Board of Dentistry.

The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by the Philippine Dental Association regarding the alleged illegal practice of dentistry by foreign nationals.

The suspects may face charges for violating Republic Act 9484, or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007, in connection with the alleged practice.

The CIDG urged the public to verify the legitimacy and licensing of individuals offering dental services.

The agency also encouraged people to immediately report suspected illegal dental practices to authorities.

The arrests followed the joint operation involving law enforcement agencies and the Philippine Dental Association-Mandaue Chapter after the complaint regarding the alleged dental practice.

Authorities did not provide additional details about the identities of the three Vietnamese nationals or the specific dental procedure beyond the reported tooth extraction.

The case remains subject to the appropriate legal process following the arrests.

The CIDG’s reminder came as authorities continued to encourage the public to check whether individuals offering dental services have the necessary licenses and permits required under Philippine regulations.
