OCD on alert following magnitude 6.5 earthquake at Balut Island

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) remains on alert following the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck near Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

According to OCD Region 12 Regional Director Rodrigo Sosmeña, the tremor was felt across various parts of the SOCCSKSARGEN region.

The strongest ground shaking, recorded at Intensity V, was experienced in the municipalities of Malapatan, Kiamba, and Malungon in Sarangani Province.

As of now, the OCD said it has not received any reports of major damage caused by the earthquake.

Despite this, the agency continues to coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices to assess the extent of the damage.

Several families also remain in evacuation centers, particularly in the municipality of Glan, as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
