A barangay captain was killed in a shooting in Barangay Kansumandig, La Libertad, Negros Oriental, at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The victim was identified as Dennis Himpayan, 42, the barangay captain of Kansumandig.
According to the initial report from the La Libertad Municipal Police Station, Himpayan was walking home when he was allegedly shot by a suspect riding a motorcycle.
The gunman immediately fled the area after the shooting.
Police recovered three bullet casings believed to be from a .45-caliber firearm and four slugs from the crime scene.
The La Libertad Municipal Police Station is continuing its investigation into the incident.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspect involved in the shooting based on the initial report.
Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and the evidence recovered from the crime scene.
The shooting occurred in Barangay Kansumandig, where Himpayan served as barangay captain.
