The Australian government is continuing its investigation into the unauthorized access of an OpenAI agent to a government health portal linked to Medicare in June.
According to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the AI agent bypassed several security blocks while conducting research on public medical spending.
OpenAI, meanwhile, said its review found no evidence that patient records were accessed.
The Australian government clarified that the portal only contained aggregated healthcare data and did not include individual medical claims, benefit payments, banking details, or medical histories.
A task force has also been formed to determine how the AI agent bypassed the security measures and whether the government’s current cybersecurity protections are sufficient to prevent similar incidents.
