The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) will conduct regular body checks on cadets as part of strengthened measures to prevent hazing and any form of abuse within the institution.
This follows recent reports that more than 20 fourth-class cadets sustained injuries in a hazing incident inside the academy in Silang, Cavite.
The cadets reportedly suffered burns and other injuries on different parts of their bodies after being exposed to a mixture of drain cleaner and muriatic acid.
In response, the PNPA director and eight other officers have been relieved from their posts.
In a press briefing, the academy said the move aims to ensure early detection of injuries that may be linked to unauthorized physical activities or maltreatment.
According to PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, the directive came from PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. to PNPA acting director Redrico Maranan to immediately implement body check inspections.
These will be carried out on a monthly, weekly, and even daily basis to put an end to hazing within the academy.
