Bantay Dagat boat destroyed by fire off Alcoy, Cebu

A motorized boat used by Bantay Dagat personnel was destroyed by fire off Tingko Beach in Barangay Daanlungsod, Alcoy, Cebu on Sunday, April 26, authorities said.

Initial investigation showed that the boat suddenly sparked while Bantay Dagat personnel were preparing to start the engine for a scheduled seaborne patrol. Moments later, flames quickly spread, engulfing the entire vessel.

Firefighters encountered difficulty controlling the blaze because the burning boat was located far from the shoreline. The distance limited immediate access for responders and delayed firefighting efforts.

To assist in the response, members of the Bantay Dagat worked together to push the burning boat toward a more accessible area where firefighters could effectively suppress the flames.

After coordinated efforts between responders and personnel on site, the fire was eventually put under control. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The motorized boat, which was used for maritime patrol operations in the area, sustained heavy damage after being consumed by flames.
