Body of missing 9-year-old found in sack in Bukidnon

Authorities discovered the remains of a missing 9-year-old girl inside a sack at the bottom of a cliff in Barangay Can-ayan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, on the morning of April 17.

According to the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office, the discovery was made at about 10 a.m. in Zone 5, Langcog, Incalbog, during a follow-up investigation and search and rescue operation.

Personnel from the Malaybalay City Police Station, the City Social Welfare and Development office, and Barangay Can-ayan officials participated in the operation.

The minor had been reported missing since April 14 and was a resident of the same area where the remains were later found.

Investigators from the General Investigation Section of the Malaybalay City Police Station immediately conducted further inquiries following the discovery.

The Bukidnon Provincial Forensic Unit was requested to process the crime scene and examine the recovered remains.

Authorities noted that the area where the remains were found has no cellular signal coverage and is located approximately 65 kilometers from the Malaybalay City Police Station.

During forensic processing conducted at Villanueva Funeral Homes in Barangay 8, Malaybalay City, authorities observed that the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.

The remains have been scheduled for autopsy examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the incident.

Meanwhile, Malaybalay City Councilor Jason Chad Ayala announced a ₱50,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect allegedly involved in the case.

Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement as the investigation continues.
