2 hurt as jeep overturns in Lapu-Lapu City

Twelve passengers were injured after a public utility jeep overturned near the foot of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on Sunday night, Aug. 3, 2025.

CCTV footage showed normal traffic flow before the jeep suddenly swerved to the side of the road and flipped over. The incident occurred in Lapu-Lapu City and was captured clearly on camera.

Nagiel Bañacia, officer-in-charge of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, confirmed that the victims sustained injuries to various parts of their bodies, including the waist, shoulder, and arms. They were immediately taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

An initial investigation by the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office indicated that the jeep was hit by a car, causing it to lose balance and overturn.

The car driver told authorities that he swerved to avoid a motorcycle, which allegedly led to the collision with the jeep.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine possible charges and confirm the sequence of events.
