Two people were killed while six others were injured after a pick-up truck plowed into a tricycle, motorcycle, and several bystanders in Passi City, Iloilo, on Monday morning, April 20, police said.
The fatalities were identified only as Jerald, 22, the motorcycle driver, and his passenger Arnold, 40, both residents of Passi City.
Police identified the pick-up truck driver as Rhick, a 20-year-old student and resident of Pontevedra, Capiz.
Authorities said Rhick was traveling with his older brother, identified as Gian, 24, and they were on their way to Iloilo City when the incident occurred.
Aside from the two fatalities, six bystanders were injured in the crash. Among those hurt were two children aged 2 and 3 years old.
According to the initial police investigation, the driver of the pick-up truck allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross into the opposite lane.
The vehicle then struck a tricycle, a motorcycle, and several bystanders along the road.
Emergency responders brought the injured victims to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities did not immediately release the conditions of the injured victims.
Police said the driver voluntarily surrendered to authorities following the incident.
Investigators are continuing their inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
Authorities reminded motorists to exercise caution and maintain control of their vehicles while traveling on public roads to prevent similar incidents.
