Two construction workers were killed while four others were injured after being electrocuted during work in Cebu City, authorities said.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2026, in Barangay Lahug, where six employees of a construction company were installing a solar light pole.
Based on the initial investigation, authorities said the accident occurred when the solar light pole being erected allegedly came into contact with an overhead power line. The contact caused an electric current to pass through the structure, electrocuting the workers who were handling it.
Two of the victims were declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Police identified them only by their aliases, Bert, 32, and Ven, 23. The remaining four workers were injured and were brought to a hospital for medical treatment. Their conditions were not immediately disclosed.
Responders secured the area following the incident to prevent further harm and to allow investigators to examine the scene. Authorities said they are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Reporters from Brigada News FM Cebu who visited the site observed several pairs of slippers believed to belong to some of the victims, left scattered near the work area.
The incident has raised concerns about safety conditions during nighttime construction activities, particularly those involving electrical installations. Authorities have not released additional details on whether safety protocols were in place at the time of the accident.
An investigation is ongoing to determine responsibility and to assess whether violations of safety standards contributed to the fatal electrocution. Officials said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
