18-year-old confesses to dismembering brother in Zamboanga

A 27-year-old man was allegedly killed by his younger brother after being struck with a hammer while sleeping and later dismembered in Purok 12, Barangay Sinunuc, Zamboanga City.

The victim was identified as Raffy Alam, 27, while the alleged suspect was his 18-year-old younger brother, Rashdy Alam. Both are residents of the area.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Zamboanga, the suspect allegedly said he committed the killing due to his brother’s reported involvement with illegal drugs.

Prior to the incident, the brothers allegedly had an argument after Raffy reportedly sold some of their household belongings. The suspect also claimed that his brother had threatened to kill him and their mother.

According to the suspect’s account, he waited until his brother was asleep before striking him on the head with a hammer. He then allegedly dismembered the body, placing the victim’s head and both hands inside an ice box, while the remaining body parts were placed inside a suitcase.

Police said the victim had reportedly been dead for about two days before the remains were discovered. The suspect allegedly planned to dispose of the remains but was unable to transport the suitcase and ice box. He eventually informed his family and surrendered to police, where he allegedly confessed to the killing.

Neighbors expressed shock over the incident, saying they knew the suspect as a quiet, kind and helpful person, particularly toward his ailing mother.
