10-year-old boy stabbed by uncle in Mandaue City

A 10-year-old boy was injured after he was allegedly stabbed by his uncle early Thursday morning, March 26, in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City, Cebu authorities said.

Police arrested the 41-year-old suspect, identified only as alias Chester, shortly after the incident.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Mercy Villaro-Kantuna, spokesperson of the Mandaue City Police Office, the suspect had just returned home from a drinking session before the stabbing occurred around 5 a.m.

Authorities said the suspect got into an argument with the victim’s 15-year-old sibling over sleeping arrangements inside the house. The disagreement reportedly created noise that woke the sleeping 10-year-old victim.

Instead of continuing the argument with the older sibling, the suspect allegedly stabbed the younger child in the back using a screwdriver.

The injured boy was immediately brought to a hospital for treatment. Police said the child is currently in stable condition.

Following the incident, officers promptly arrested the suspect and placed him under custody.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect will face charges for violating Republic Act 7610, also known as the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident while ensuring that the victim receives proper medical attention and support.

Officials reminded the public to seek peaceful ways to resolve conflicts, especially inside homes where children may be affected.
