Bedridden senior dies in Talisay City fire that burns 20 homes

A 71-year-old woman died after being trapped inside her home during a fire that broke out Thursday morning, March 26, in Sitio Alegre, Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City, Cebu authorities said.

The victim was identified as Rebecca Bacalan, a senior citizen who was reportedly bedridden at the time of the incident.

According to initial reports, the fire started around 11 a.m. and quickly spread across the residential area. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) raised the fire alert to first alarm at 11:15 a.m. as firefighters responded to the growing blaze.

The situation escalated as the fire intensified, eventually reaching third alarm status before it was brought under control at approximately 12:02 p.m.

Authorities said the victim was unable to escape from the house and became trapped inside during the incident.

At least 20 houses were destroyed in the fire, leaving several families affected by the damage. Firefighters worked to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further into nearby homes.

Emergency responders continued clearing operations in the area following the incident to ensure that no additional hazards remained.
