₱5.3M suspected substandard laptops seized in Cebu City

Police seized approximately 207 laptops worth an estimated ₱5.3 million and arrested two individuals during an operation targeting the alleged sale of substandard electronic products in Cebu City.

The operation was conducted on May 19, 2026, at a commercial building in Barangay Santo Niño under OPLAN MEGA SHOPPER. It was carried out by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Mandaue City Field Unit, CIDG Regional Field Unit 7, and the Regional Intelligence Unit 7.

Authorities said the operation resulted in the confiscation of 207 units of various laptop models suspected of being substandard and lacking the necessary certifications and approvals required for distribution and sale.

Two sales clerks were arrested during the entrapment operation. Investigators alleged that the suspects were involved in the sale of uncertified electronic products.

According to authorities, the alleged violation falls under Republic Act No. 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines. The products were reportedly found to be lacking permits from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and other required regulatory approvals.

The seized laptops were valued at approximately ₱5.3 million.

Police have not released additional details regarding the source of the electronic products or whether other individuals may face charges as a result of the investigation.

The arrested suspects are currently under the custody of the CIDG Mandaue City Field Unit for documentation and further disposition.

Authorities continue to remind businesses and consumers to ensure that electronic products being sold and purchased comply with government regulations and certification requirements.
