Ambulance carrying patient collides with taxi in Cebu City

An ambulance carrying a patient collided with a taxi shortly after three o’clock Wednesday morning along P. Del Rosario Street.

The accident happened near the corner of Junquera Street in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City, according to authorities conducting initial investigation.

The ambulance was transporting a patient from the Carreta-Mabolo boundary toward Cebu City Medical Center for emergency medical treatment.

Authorities said the taxi had a green light when the ambulance approached the intersection while responding to the medical emergency.

Ambulance driver Rufino said other vehicles stopped to give way, but the taxi continued moving through the intersection.

Rufino also denied allegations that the ambulance failed to use its siren while transporting the patient during the emergency.

After the collision, another ambulance immediately transferred the patient to continue the trip toward Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.

Meanwhile, taxi driver Jaime said he failed to see the ambulance because something blocked his view while approaching the intersection.

Jaime also said he did not hear the ambulance siren and would have stopped if he heard it beforehand.

The taxi driver said the collision caused him to feel dizzy and experience what he believed was increased blood pressure.

He poured water over his head afterward while waiting for assistance at the accident scene, according to his account.

Authorities continue investigating the collision to establish the circumstances and determine the responsibilities of those involved in the accident.
