P6-M smuggled goods seized at Dumaguete Port

Authorities seized an estimated P6 million worth of smuggled products, including cigarettes and used clothing, during an operation at Dumaguete Port on May 20, 2026.

According to a report, the operation was launched after intelligence operatives of the Philippine Coast Guard received information regarding the alleged transport of smuggled cigarettes aboard a transport vehicle bound for Siquijor.

Acting on the intelligence report, authorities conducted an inspection of the vehicle and discovered 50 master cases of suspected illegal cigarettes. They also recovered one truck and four bales of used clothing, locally known as ukay-ukay.

The confiscated items were estimated to have a combined value of approximately P6 million.

Authorities said the contraband items were reportedly intended for disposal in Siquijor. Further details regarding the shipment and its origin were not immediately disclosed.

The operation was carried out through the joint efforts of law enforcement agencies tasked with preventing the entry and movement of smuggled goods in the region.

Following the seizure, the confiscated products, along with the individuals involved, were placed under the custody of the Bureau of Customs.

Customs authorities are currently conducting a deeper investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shipment. The agency is also preparing the filing of appropriate charges against those found responsible for the alleged smuggling activities.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the individuals involved pending the outcome of the investigation.

The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to curb the movement of illegal and smuggled products through ports and transport hubs across the country.
