Aklan SB member’s home attacked in midnight shooting

The house of Numancia Sangguniang Bayan Member Jerome Vega in Barangay Camanci Sur, Numancia, Aklan was hit by gunfire early Tuesday morning, May 19, authorities said.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Kalibo, Vega said his wife sent him a message shortly after 1 a.m. after hearing a series of gunshots outside their home.

Vega said he arrived home around 2 a.m. after attending an event but did not immediately notice anything unusual at the residence.

The incident was discovered the following morning when his wife found a bullet slug while sweeping the living room.

Upon inspecting the area, the family reportedly found five spent shell casings and noticed a bullet hole in their door.

Several residents in the area told authorities they heard multiple gunshots before hearing a motorcycle speed away from the scene.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.

According to PLT Elmer Sardon, officer-in-charge of the Numancia Municipal Police Station, investigators have already identified a person of interest in connection with the incident.

Sardon said the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue gathering evidence and statements from possible witnesses.

The shooting has raised concerns among residents, although police have not yet released further details regarding the identity of the person of interest or the possible motive behind the attack.

Authorities urged anyone with information that could help the investigation to coordinate with the police.
