A witness in the kidnapping and illegal detention case of missing beauty queen Catherine Camilon has withdrawn her testimony, citing serious concerns for her personal safety.
The witness, identified as a friend of Camilon, had been set to testify against former police officer Allan de Castro and his bodyguard, Jeffry Magpantay. Both have been accused in connection with Camilon’s disappearance in 2023.
Camilon was last seen in Batangas, five days before she was officially declared missing.
According to Camilon’s sister, Ching-Ching Camilon, the witness submitted a formal letter to the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Batangas explaining her decision. The letter stated that the witness had received death threats and believed she was being followed.
Although the family expressed disappointment over the withdrawal, they said they continue to trust the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the legal process.
The court is scheduled to proceed with hearings on September 2, 2025.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the threats or if the witness will be placed under protection. The withdrawal raises questions about the safety of those involved in high-profile cases and the pace of justice for Camilon’s family.
