Authorities recovered possible human remains during a continuing retrieval operation in Taal Lake, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed Monday.
According to PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, the recovered items include several bones, slippers, sandals, a jacket, a necklace, and other personal belongings.
The bones will be subjected to forensic examination to determine if they are human. If confirmed, the samples will be cross-matched with DNA profiles previously submitted by relatives of missing individuals linked to the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts).
Several families of the missing had voluntarily provided DNA samples earlier in the case, which has drawn national attention due to the number of victims and the alleged involvement of uniformed personnel.
The PNP continues to urge the public—especially those with missing relatives—to coordinate with the nearest police station. They are encouraged to help identify any items recovered from the site and submit additional DNA samples if needed.
The retrieval operations in Taal Lake remain ongoing, as investigators follow leads and await test results that may offer long-awaited answers to the families of the missing.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the items recovered are directly linked to the high-profile sabungeros case. The PNP says all evidence is being handled with care and will undergo standard forensic procedures.
