Amid the continuing rise in fuel prices and the recent rate hike by Meralco this March, the public is set to face another increase in utility costs.
Water rates for consumers of Maynilad Water Services and Manila Water will also increase starting April.
In a virtual briefing, Patrick Ty, chief regulator of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO), announced that the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Board of Trustees approved the recommendation to implement the Foreign Currency Differential Adjustment (FCDA) for the second quarter of the year.
The decision was based on the evaluation of FCDA proposals submitted by Manila Water and Maynilad.
For Maynilad customers, water rates will increase by 9 centavos per cubic meter.
The adjustment will affect consumers in 17 cities in Metro Manila and Cavite.
Meanwhile, Manila Water customers will see an additional 4 centavos per cubic meter.
Areas covered by Manila Water include Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Mandaluyong, San Juan, parts of Quezon City and Manila, as well as several towns in Rizal province.
