Vice President Sara Duterte urged the public to remain vigilant against what she described as the alleged “weaponization” of laws, as supporters marked the 81st birthday of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a video message released in line with the birthday celebration of the former president, the Vice President expressed gratitude to individuals and groups who continue to support her and the former leader.
She thanked various organizations, volunteers, and millions of Filipinos overseas who organized gatherings to celebrate the birthday of the former president.
Alongside the celebration, Duterte called on the public to stay firm and watchful amid ongoing national issues.
She emphasized that defending the rights of the former president is also linked to the issue of national sovereignty.
The Vice President also stressed the importance of monitoring what she described as the use of laws as tools against opponents. She raised concern about the involvement of foreign institutions that may interfere with the country’s justice processes.
According to Duterte, it is essential for the justice system to remain independent and to serve only the interests of the Filipino people.
She also expressed appreciation for the continued support of the public, which she said provides strength and inspiration amid ongoing challenges.
Duterte further encouraged Filipinos to continue defending the nation’s dignity, underscoring the need for unity and vigilance in protecting the country’s sovereignty and institutions.
