Police captain killed in shooting inside Capiz KTV bar

A police captain was killed after being shot inside a KTV bar in Barangay Binuntucan, Pontevedra, Capiz, early Monday, July 20.

The victim, a 49-year-old police captain and resident of Barangay Swa, President Roxas, was rushed to a hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

One of the three alleged suspects, identified only by the alias “Will,” 38, a resident of Barangay Jolongajog in Pontevedra, was arrested following the incident.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Roxas, Pontevedra Municipal Police Station chief Police Capt. Mark Anthony Garcia said the victim had accompanied two fellow police officers to a dinner meeting at the invitation of the KTV bar owner.

The meeting was reportedly intended to discuss peace and order concerns in the area.

According to the initial police investigation, a commotion broke out involving three male customers inside the establishment.

Authorities said the victim and the two other police officers attempted to calm the situation.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly stood up, drew a firearm and shot the police captain in the chest.

Police later arrested the suspect and recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, along with his motorcycle.

Authorities said the arrested suspect had previously been linked to a robbery case.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

A manhunt is also underway for the two other individuals believed to have been with the arrested suspect during the incident.

Authorities have not yet announced the charges to be filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
