U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson expressed her gratitude to the Filipino people as she concludes her three-year term as the United States envoy.
In a statement, Carlson said the relationship between the Philippines and the United States—as friends, partners, and allies—has remained strong.
She noted that the ties between the two countries have a meaningful impact on people’s lives, fostering growth and prosperity, and helping secure the future.
Carlson added that various exchange programs were carried out through the Fulbright Commission, further strengthening people-to-people connections.
She said the U.S. and the Philippines worked together to advance trade and economic cooperation, while trade missions also opened opportunities for investment and partnerships.
In 2025, the United States also committed $313 million in foreign assistance to the Philippines and helped strengthen the country’s military forces.
This year, Carlson said there is much to celebrate, including 80 years of diplomatic relations, the 75th anniversary of the Mutual Defense Treaty, and other milestones.
She also shared that she was pleased to learn that 82 percent of Filipinos trust the United States as their premier security partner.
As she departs the country, Carlson said she will be taking with her the song “Kumukutikutitap” by Ryan Cayabyab, along with fond memories of friends, family, and the joy she experienced during the longest Christmas season in the world.
In closing, Carlson said serving as U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines has been an honor in her 40-year career.
Yesterday, the Philippine Coast Guard conducted Departure Honors for the U.S. official.
Meanwhile, as part of tradition, the photos of all former U.S. ambassadors are displayed in the hallways of U.S. embassies worldwide. Carlson said her photo will soon join them—an honor she deeply appreciates.
U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated former businessman Lee Lipton as Carlson’s successor.
