Public school teacher arrested in Davao del Oro drug bust

A 45-year-old public school teacher was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion, Compostela, Davao del Oro, on the night of Oct. 22, authorities said.

The suspect, identified only as alias Jesly, was arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office XI, in coordination with local police, shortly after 10 p.m.

According to PDEA-XI, the teacher allegedly sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an agent acting as a poseur buyer, leading to the arrest.

Authorities also recovered 73 grams of suspected shabu from the suspect, with an estimated street value of ₱496,400, along with the marked money used in the transaction.

The suspect is now detained and has been charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PDEA-XI Regional Director Atty. Benjamin Gaspi reiterated the agency’s commitment to sustained operations against illegal drugs.

Gaspi also urged the public to support the agency’s anti-drug campaign by reporting suspected illegal drug activities to its office.

The operation took place in Compostela, one of the municipalities in Davao del Oro, as authorities continue efforts to curb the illegal drug trade.

The arrest highlights the involvement of law enforcement agencies in conducting buy-bust operations against suspected drug sellers. However, the allegations against the suspect remain subject to the legal process.

Authorities have identified the arrested individual only by the alias Jesly in the report. No additional details about the suspect or the case were provided.

The reported seizure included the suspected illegal drugs and marked money used during the operation. The estimated value of the seized substance was placed at ₱496,400 by authorities.

PDEA-XI continues to call on residents to cooperate with its anti-drug campaign by reporting information about suspected illegal drug activities directly to the agency.
