A truck helper died after a dump truck plunged about 50 meters off a cliff in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur, early Thursday morning, March 4.
The accident happened around 6 a.m. in Purok 10, Pag-asa, Barangay Tagongon.
Initial investigation showed that a dump truck was traveling from Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, toward Esperanza, Agusan del Sur, when the incident occurred.
Authorities said the driver, identified as Iver Amoroso, 65, allegedly lost control of the vehicle after passing through a slippery portion of the road.
The truck then veered off the road and fell from a cliff approximately 50 meters below the main roadway.
Amoroso was accompanied by Wilmar Pesaro, a truck helper from Esperanza, Agusan del Sur.
During the crash, Pesaro was reportedly thrown from the truck and died on the spot due to the impact.
Authorities later recovered the victim’s body.
Meanwhile, the driver sustained injuries in the accident and was brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment by members of the Tagbina Rescue Team.
Police said the Tagbina Municipal Police Station received a report about the incident at around 6:20 a.m.
Responding officers immediately proceeded to the area to verify the report and conduct an investigation. Authorities said further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
