Tropical storm Nika exits Philippine area of responsibility

Tropical Storm “Nika” has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at around 2:00 PM today, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As the storm moves away, it is expected to bring lighter conditions to the country. However, residents in affected areas are still advised to remain alert, especially if heavy rains and strong winds continue in some regions in the storm’s final hours within PAR.

PAGASA will provide further updates regarding the storm’s impact and potential rainfall in the coming days.

The number of individuals affected by Typhoon Nika has risen to 153,643, up from over 142,000, as the storm continues to wreak havoc across several regions. According to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the affected population includes 36,788 families from Regions 1, 2, 3, 5, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

As of now, a total of 14,971 individuals, equivalent to 4,593 families, remain in 246 evacuation centers spread across the affected regions. The NDRRMC has advised continued vigilance as Typhoon Nika’s impact continues to disrupt daily life in these areas.

Meanwhile, many roads and bridges, particularly in Region 2, have become impassable due to floodwaters and landslides triggered by the storm. Authorities are working to assess and clear the affected routes to restore mobility.

In addition, power outages remain widespread, with 25 areas still without electricity, further complicating the situation for residents.

The NDRRMC has pledged to continue providing updates and support to affected communities. Emergency teams are deployed to assist those in evacuation centers, while local governments are coordinating relief operations for the impacted families.
