A 17-year-old TikTok influencer was shot dead inside her home in Islamabad, Pakistan, allegedly by a 22-year-old man she had repeatedly rejected.
Police say the suspect had been attempting to contact the victim for some time, but she continuously turned him down. Authorities believe the repeated rejection was the motive for the fatal shooting.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the crime. He was reportedly found loitering near the victim’s residence following the incident.
The brutal killing sparked outrage on social media, especially after online users began blaming the victim’s social media presence for the incident. The wave of victim-blaming comments drew strong condemnation from women’s rights advocates.
Many pointed out the growing risks female content creators face, particularly in conservative societies, where public visibility often leads to harassment or violence.
The case adds to a growing list of influencers facing real-world harm due to online exposure. Just last May, a Mexican beauty influencer was fatally shot while livestreaming on TikTok.
The investigation into the Islamabad case is ongoing.
