Teachers’ group continues to push for salary hike for public school teachers

A teachers’ group continues to push for a long-overdue salary increase for public school teachers.

According to the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC), they are still waiting for action on their long-pending appeal for a ₱15,000 salary increase for public school teachers.

TDC made the statement following the recently approved pay hike for military and uniformed personnel (MUP).

In an interview with Brigada News FM Manila, TDC Chairperson Benjo Basas said they hold no resentment toward the MUP, acknowledging that they are simply doing their duties.

However, Basas stressed that teachers’ long-standing calls for a salary increase—and the promises made regarding it—have yet to be heard or fulfilled.

He noted that while there are already pending bills in both the Senate and the House of Representatives concerning the pay hike, these have not even reached the committee level.

Because of this, Basas asserted that it would be ideal for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to issue an Executive Order granting a salary increase for teachers.

He added that it is time for the government to make up for its employees and public sector workers.
