A teacher tragically lost her life after being hit by a speeding motorcycle while crossing a pedestrian lane in Kidapawan City.
The victim, identified as Jeconi Joice “Joyce” Paler, 33, was a USM–KCC teacher and a resident of Barangay Lanao, where the incident occurred around 6 p.m. on October 29, 2025.
Reports said she was buying milk for her child after jogging when a Honda Click 125i, driven by Christian Curato, 23, struck her with great force.
She sustained serious head and body injuries and was rushed to the Kidapawan Medical Specialist Center’s ICU, where she later died.
Paler fought for her life for several hours before being declared dead around 3 a.m. the following morning, according to attending doctors.
Witnesses said the motorcycle was moving fast before the collision, and the impact threw her several meters away from the pedestrian lane.
The driver, who is also a resident of Kidapawan City, was taken to a hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries in the crash.
The victim’s family and colleagues at USM-KCC described her as a loving mother and a dedicated educator.
Authorities are now conducting a full investigation into the incident and are expected to file appropriate charges once the driver recovers.
The victim’s family has called for justice and urged the local government to improve road safety in the city.
Meanwhile, police continue to remind motorists to observe speed limits, especially in populated areas and pedestrian crossings, to prevent further loss of lives.
The tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the importance of caution, discipline, and responsibility on the road.
