SUV-motorcycle crash kills rider in Negros Oriental

One person was killed following a collision between a sport utility vehicle and a motorcycle Sunday afternoon in Barangay Mayabon, Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental, police said.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. on Jan. 4 along a roadway in Barangay Mayabon, according to an initial police investigation. Authorities said the SUV and the motorcycle were traveling in opposite directions when the incident happened.

Police reported that upon reaching the area, the SUV suddenly entered the opposite lane, directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The motorcycle rider attempted to avoid the vehicle but was unable to do so.

The impact of the collision threw the rider from the motorcycle. Responding personnel declared the rider dead at the scene.

The motorcycle passenger sustained injuries and was immediately brought to a hospital for medical treatment. The 74-year-old driver of the SUV was also injured and taken to a medical facility, police said.

Investigators are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine possible liability. Police have not released the names of those involved as of reporting time.

Authorities reminded motorists to remain alert on the road and to strictly observe traffic rules, especially when traveling through areas with oncoming vehicles.
