Storm ‘Nakri’ to enter PAR, no threat to land areas — PAGASA

Tropical Storm Nakri edges closer to the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but will spare the country from its direct effects, according to the state weather bureau on Thursday, October 9.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Chenel Dominguez said Nakri will skirt along the northeastern boundary of PAR, keeping its circulation away from Philippine land areas.

As of 3 am, the storm hovered 1,505 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon. Once it enters PAR, it will carry the local name Quedan.

Even as Nakri stays distant, the southwesterly windflow continues to drive scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Visayas, Mindanao, Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, and the Bicol Region.

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rains in these areas could trigger flash floods or landslides.

Localized thunderstorms will bring isolated rain showers over the rest of Luzon, while light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will persist across the country.

Forecasters said Nakri’s entry marks another reminder of the active weather pattern as the country transitions toward the northeast monsoon season.*
