The death toll from the recent onslaught of Tropical Storms Nika, Ofel, and Pepito has risen to 12, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported. The storms have left nearly one million families affected and caused widespread devastation.
The latest NDRRMC update disclosed that seven of the fatalities were from Region 2, three were from Region 3 (Central Luzon), and two were from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Out of the total, five deaths have been confirmed as directly caused by the storms, with three from Region 3 and two from CAR.
Alongside the fatalities, 16 individuals have been reported injured, while four remain missing.
The scale of the impact is immense, with thousands of homes damaged or destroyed, leaving families in dire need of assistance. The government and various aid organizations are mobilizing resources to provide relief and support to the affected areas.
